Azealia Banks took action by sending a cease-and-desist letter to Matty Healy and demanding $1 million in compensation.
The legal action stems from a confrontation that occurred online between the two on December 4, where Healy responded to Banks’ criticism of his friend Charli XCX.
Banks issued a warning before taking legal action against Healy for his threat of physical violence.
However, a legal notice from Banks’ lawyer, Wallace Collins, was shared on X, addressing the situation.
The letter, dated December 7, begins: “Please note that I am legal counsel to superstar Azealia Banks regarding your threats of violence against my client. If you are represented by counsel , please send this letter to your attorney immediately and request that your attorney notify us of such representation.”
Next, it should be noted that Healy’s criticisms of Banks’s professional standing, use of racial slurs, and threats of physical harm have all been widely documented.
Although Healy admitted that the comments were wrong, this admission does not undo the damage done but instead serves as evidence of their guilt.
The letter added that the 1975 Frontman “acted intentionally with the specific intent of causing my client to be shocked, distressed and mentally traumatized by your assaults intended to intimidate him.” threat of imminent physical harm” and that is because of his celebrity image, “duty to avoid reckless statements” and could cause his fans to be “incited to act accordingly.” your posts and commit acts of violence” against with Banks.
“Rather than initiating costly and time-consuming legal action, I often find that it is in the interests of all parties to try to resolve such matters amicably without court intervention. “
They concluded, “We request that you immediately cease and desist from making any threats or defamatory statements against my client and that demands be made for (1) an apology prompt disclosure to my client (in a mutually agreeable manner) and (2) damages in the amount of $1,000,000 upon full resolution of this matter.”
If Healy fails to meet the specific requirements, “my client will be forced to immediately sue and seek substantial monetary damages as well as legal fees and injunctive relief as appropriate.” .”
This comes after Banks expressed nostalgia by resharing a clip of Charli’s music video for the song “Break The Rules” from 2014, starting with Charli’s previous appearance with the words, “Charli used to be so beautiful. Ugh.”
The “About You” frontman later came out in support of the “Apple” singer and shared his concerns over Azealia’s tendency to target influential, attractive and controversial women.
He went on to suggest that Banks may be “jealous” of others’ success despite her undeniable talent in the music industry.
“Azealia, you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘read.’ .”
“You’re very talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap.”
As tensions rose, Banks wasted no time in expressing his thoughts, commenting: “Fucking look[s] Like Frankenstein to me. You both look like you shared needles. Laughed my butt off.”
Healy then replied: “Tell me so, I won’t keep an eye on you at an award because I’ll slap you hard. I’ll get the Guinness World Record for highest score.” The mouse that some call a wigwam once flew.”
