Born on March 4, 1996, Benthal can be said to have music in his family. His love for music was largely influenced by his parents, each of whom had different musical talents. He was born in Embu, Nairobi, Kenya.
His mother sang in the choir and his father played guitar. He started learning guitar in the sixth grade. He expressed his growing closeness with his mother in the song “Nikuchukie”. The song describes how his mother raised him in poverty without any help from his father.
Benthal could have helped, but he chose not to. He doesn’t hold grudges, though. When he decided to pursue music as a career, his mother encouraged him; however, his father disagreed.
Bensall went to school in his hometown before moving to Nairobi for college. He decided not to major in civil engineering at the Technical University of Kenya because he found music to be his passion and his fulfilment.
Profession
Benthal told Standard Digital News that he was exposed to music as a child growing up in the town of Embu. His mother was a choir member and his father played guitar at an early age. He grew up listening to gospel, rumba, and various other music genres. Benthal first began playing guitar in the sixth grade.
After graduating from high school, he moved to Nairobi where he met the band H_art and became close with them. He later enrolled in Sauti Academy, which led to Sauti Sol’s decision to sign him. Bensoul attributes his success in music to God.
In 2018, Bensoul shared the stage with reggae artist Chronixx during the Chronology tour in Kenya, thanks to his outstanding songwriting and vocal abilities. Chronixx completely recognized his talent and called him the future of Kenyan music.
