Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, has responded to allegations that she covered up Dolly Parton after Parton defended her Cowboy Carter ignored by CMA.
Previously, Parton said Beyonce might not be nominated for a CMA award because the award ceremony focuses on artists who have been involved in the genre “their whole lives”.
“Oh Dolly, we love you, but Bey has spent her ENTIRE life working hard since she was 9 years old! She has country roots too. She has mastered her craft and broken records in EVERY genre. So to say she hasn’t ‘spent her whole life’ in country music is to negate all the hard work she has put in,” Knowles reportedly wrote on Instagram, according to Yahoo.
“Bey doesn’t need to stay in one lane to be respected – her talent and work ethic speak for themselves! She’s worked her butt off, and no one else is asked to ‘spend their whole life’ in one place to be recognized! #beencountry,’ the post continued.
However, that post has been deleted.
After the message went viral, Knowles claimed she did not write it.
“This is fake news, not mine,” she wrote in another Instagram post.
Previously, Parton spoke with Diversity on the CMA’s decision not to include Cowboy Carter, and the next singles on this year’s nomination list.
“There are so many great country artists, I guess maybe in the country music industry, they think, we can’t ignore some people who have dedicated their lives to this music,” she said.
“I don’t think it’s a matter of exclusion, like it’s intentional,” Parton added. “I think it’s just what the country charts and country artists do, they do it all the time, not just one particular album.”
The “Jolene” singer shared that she is open to collaborating more with Beyoncé in the future.
