Billie Eilish’s heartbreak: Fame left her without friends because she couldn’t relate to them anymore

Billie Eilish has expressed that she has distanced herself from the friends who were a part of her life before fame struck and international stardom as a young pop star.

Made waves in the music industry at age 17 with his breakthrough hit “Ocean Eyes” and debut album When we all fall asleep, where do we go??, Eilish has undergone a major change in her social circle.

During a segment of Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver’s podcast, Miss Me?, the “Bad Guy” singer candidly addressed questions about being haunted. This discussion made her reflect on her early rise to fame without the support of her close companions.

The 22-year-old confessed: “I lost all my friends when I became famous. Literally all of them except one. My best friend Zoe, who I’ve been friends with since I was two years old. She still my girl”.

“But she was pretty much the only one left. I was suddenly famous and couldn’t have sex with anyone. It was difficult. Really difficult.”

When Oliver asked, Eilish shared that when she returned from tour, she tried reaching out to some friends but received no response.

Looking back on her efforts, Eilish admitted she tried but still felt frustrated. She even admitted she was young and naive at the time.

However, during her 20th birthday celebration, she realizes that her group of “friends” are actually all her employees.

“I remember looking around the room and it was just the people I recruited,” the “Birds of a Feather” singer confessed. “And they were all 15 years or more older than me. And then one of my best friends, who I worked with, quit. Suddenly and without talking to me. And that was the thing.” The worst happened to me.”

“I realized ‘oh no, maybe I really am alone,’” Eilish thought. “So from then on, I became very distant with the people I worked with and I had a very strange relationship with being friendly with the people I worked with because I was so frightened by the loss and I have many difficulties. about the problem of abandonment.”

Being involved in relationships often becomes Eilish’s only source of companionship. The “Lunch” singer says that when she finds herself in a relationship she’s not truly invested in, she clings to it because it feels like her only connection.

“And then I worked really hard on building friendships and making friends, making new friends, rekindling old friendships and about a year ago, I reconnected with a bunch of old friends and now, I have a lot of friends.”

Eilish also shared her feelings at the Coachella festival in early April 2024.

“We got in the car and my friends said ‘what’s going on, are you okay?’ And I felt completely fine.. And I burst into tears.”

“And they said what’s going on and I said, ‘Guys, I have friends and I love you so much and it’s been a long time since I’ve had friends.’ I cried. And that’s really because now I really have my friendship back.”
