Birth 2004 ending explained
At the end of the 2004 film Resurrection, Nicole Kidman’s character Anna has to face the truth about a boy who claims to be her late husband. At first Anna is skeptical, but as he reveals intimate details of her life, she begins to believe his claims. However, it eventually turns out that the boy is not the reincarnation of her husband, but a confused man living a fantasy.
Anna’s blindness to her husband’s true nature is highlighted throughout the film. She learns that her husband had an affair with her sister-in-law Clara before he died, which makes her realize that her marriage is not as perfect as she thought. The little boy truly believes that he is Anna’s husband because he finds Anna’s discarded love letters, but when he learns this, he is deeply saddened and realizes that he cannot be her husband because of his love for her.
Anna is clearly not getting over the death of her husband, and she is convinced that he will be reincarnated as a boy because she wants to believe it so badly. The closing scenes show Anna in so much pain that even after marrying Joseph, she still can’t let go of the memory of her husband.
Simply put, the ending of Birth reveals the truth about the boy claiming to be Anna’s late husband and highlights Anna’s struggle to move on from her past.
