Bjorn Nielsen was a Danish chess player who represented his country in several Chess Olympiads. In 1933, he played on the fourth board for Denmark at the 5th Chess Olympiad in Folkestone, scoring +4 -2 =7. Two years later, he played on the second board at the 6th Chess Olympiad in Warsaw, scoring +3 -5 =6.
Nielsen’s greatest individual success came in 1936 when he played third board for Denmark at the 3rd Munich Unofficial Chess Olympiad. He gave a brilliant performance, scoring +10 -2 =3, winning the gold medal.
Domestically, Bjorn Nielsen was a dominant force, winning the Danish Chess Championship four times – in 1941, 1942, 1944 and 1946. In 1947, he shared first place but lost a play-off to Jens Enevoldsen. Nielsen also shared first place in 1949 but unfortunately died in Herning before his scheduled play-off with Poul Hage.
