educate
DaBaby attended Vance High School (now known as Julius L. Chambers High School) and graduated in 2010.
He then attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for only two years but did not complete his studies, saying he went to college only for his parents.
Profession
In 2015, DaBaby’s music career took a major turn when he released his first mixtape, Nonfiction. However, the mixtape was considered unprofessional and therefore failed to attract music fans. The first mixtape did not receive a good response, but he did not lose heart and continued to create his next project, another mixtape.
DaBaby also had no previous stage performance experience. The rap music scene in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lived, was not good either. So he tried to find better options. In the spring of 2015, the young American moved to Austin, Texas, to attend the annual South by Southwest music festival. He proved his talent by performing many tracks from his mixtape live.
DaBaby received positive response at music festivals and subsequently released another mixtape titled God’s Work: Resurrected in 2016. He managed to invite the famous Boosie Badazz to collaborate with him.
The mixtape “God’s Work: Resurrected” was even better than his debut mixtape and earned him a lot of necessary attention. Without a record label, he usually released singles and albums independently on online platforms such as “SoundCloud”, where he has accumulated a large number of fans over the years.
In the following months, DaBaby released several mixtapes, such as “Back on My Baby Jesus Sh!t Again” and “Billion Dollar Baby”. With each new single, his popularity grew. He also became famous with the “Baby Talk” series of mixtapes.
Furthermore, he released his first mixtape, Baby Talk, in January 2017, which is arguably his most successful album. In the same year, the rapidly rising rapper released three more mixtapes. Each of them was a huge success. That year, he also participated in the South by Southwest music festival and performed live there.
Among his mixtapes, one single stands out the most, which is the single “Light Show” released in 2016. It was a huge success. This single was very popular on platforms such as Datpiff, SoundCloud and YouTube, making DaBaby an Internet celebrity.
In June 2018, DaBaby released Baby Talk 5, the final installment in the Baby Talk series. In November of the same year, he released another mixtape titled Blank Blank, which was quite successful.
Nonetheless, his career got a huge breakthrough in early 2019 when he happily announced to well-wishers that he had signed with Interscope Records, one of the biggest music companies in the country.
DaBaby also revealed that he was working on his debut studio album, Baby on Baby. The album was officially released in March 2019 and has a total of 13 tracks. The album features several popular artists as guests, such as Rich Homie Quan, Offset, and Rich the Kid.
The album was an instant success. It debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200 chart and eventually reached number 7. A single from the album, titled “Suge,” was particularly popular with listeners and peaked at number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
On July 27, 2020, DaBaby released a new single, No Dribble, in collaboration with signed singer Stunna 4 Vegas. The single was added to the deluxe version of Blame It on Baby, which was released on August 4, 2020. On November 20, 2020, he released his debut EP, titled My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G). The album was intended to pay tribute to his late brother Glen Johnson and invited Polo G, Meek Mill and others to appear.
On January 15, 2021, DaBaby released a new single titled Masterpiece, which features a music video for the track directed by Gemini Visions. On February 19, 2021, DaBaby released a remix and music video for SpotemGottem’s single Beat Box.

Still, the most serious charge was dropped in March 2019, despite him pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon.
In January 2020, the rapper was detained and questioned in Miami in connection with a robbery. However, authorities discovered that he had an outstanding warrant out of Texas for assault charges, and he was subsequently arrested.
According to multiple media reports, DaBaby’s gang was suspected of robbing a music promoter who only paid DaBaby $20,000, while DaBaby was due $30,000 for a performance in Miami.
He and his accomplices reportedly allegedly stole $80 in cash, a credit card, and an iPhone 7 from the promoter. DaBaby was subsequently charged with assault but was released from the Miami-Dade County Jail 48 hours later.
During DaBaby’s 2020 “Up Close N Personal” tour, he allegedly slapped a female fan on his way to the stage for a show in Tampa, Florida. The annoyed audience booed him. He therefore left the venue without performing any songs. However, he later revealed in his apology that he hit her because she held her phone too close to his face while filming a video with the flash on.
