K-pop sensation BLACKPINK’s Lisa has found herself at the center of a controversy following her recent performance at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The singer was accused of lip-syncing during her highly anticipated performance, which sparked a heated debate among fans and critics.

Lisa took to the stage to perform her two hits “New Woman” and “Rockstar”, wearing a stunning red outfit that left many in awe.

However, it wasn’t long before viewers began to question the authenticity of her performance, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment and frustration.

Accusations of lip-syncing

Fans and critics were quick to point out that Lisa’s lips didn’t appear to move in sync with the music, leading many to believe she was lip-syncing. The accusations were met with outrage and backlash, with some arguing that the singer’s performance was still impressive despite the lip-syncing accusations.

I liked Lisa’s performance but her lip sync was not good at all and was extremely obvious 😭#vmas

Oh my god fvk this Lisa performance is so BORING. If you’re going to lip sync then lip sync with ATTITUDE! Even her dance moves are so “soft” (no energy at all), this is EXACTLY what I mean when I say you guys over hype K pop stars. #vmas

Lisa is the worst lip sync I’ve ever seen, she doesn’t even try

This K-Pop girl, Lisa is very talented, but lip-syncing is not one of those talents 🥴 #VMAs

Protect Lisa

However, not everyone believes that Lisa lip-synced. Many fans have come to her defense, saying that the singer’s voice was clearly audible throughout the performance.

You could clearly hear her singing straight from new lady to rock star the whole time, but you’ll have bitter fandoms telling you otherwise 😭. Anyway Lisa, you did great tonight 🔥

Watch the performance in the audience cam and you will see her singing with backtrack not lip sync, this is one of Lisa’s best performances https://t.co/39RH4g5iHr

lisa was accused of lip syncing when you could actually hear her mouth touching the mic, her breathing, and the change of notes lmao army is so used to hearing auto tuned performances that they can’t differentiate a backing track from a good live vocal 😭😭

The controversy has sparked a wider discussion about the use of lip-syncing in live performances, with many arguing that this is unfair to fans who pay to see their favourite artists perform live.
