Career
Bobby Lee worked in various coffee shops and restaurants before pursuing a comedy career. In 1994, the coffee shop where he worked suddenly closed. “I had recently gotten a job at The Comedy Store in San Diego,” he explains (also known as the La Jolla Comedy Store). After a few months of working various club jobs, he decided to pursue stand-up comedy at one of the club’s amateur nights.

He then became a regular at Pauly Shore’s mother, Mitzi,’s comedy club, The Comedy Store, in Los Angeles. He has stated in numerous interviews that his parents thought he would stay in the family business and initially rejected his pursuit of a comedy career.
In a podcast interview with actor and comedian Joe Rogan on February 1, 2011, Bobby Lee revealed that his parents barely spoke to him during the first few years of his stand-up comedy career, but after he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, his father called and asked how much he paid to be on the show, then apologized for not promoting his comedy career.
On MADtv, his younger brother has appeared multiple times without speaking lines, and his entire family has appeared in a parody film. In 2007, Bobby Lee pitched a series to Comedy Central about a Korean family in which his family would star.
