Early life
Born on March 10, 1961 and brought into the world in Lewistown, Montana, Bobby Petrino spent his childhood in Helena and transferred from Capital High School in 1979.
His father’s name is Bob Petrino Sr. He has an older brother named Paul Petrino, who is also a coach.
He attended Carroll College in the old town and graduated with a degree in elementary education and related majors in 1983.
While at Carroll College, he played quarterback for the Fighting Saints and began his coaching career as an alumni associate during the 1983 season. At the time, Bobby Petrino’s father, Bob Petrino Sr., was Carroll’s head coach, a position he held from 1971 to 1999.
Career
Bobby Petrino came to Louisville in 2003 as the head coach, replacing John L. Smith, who left for Michigan State. After just one season at Louisville, he was approached about taking the coaching job at Auburn as the Tigers considered whether to retain his previous head coach.
In his four years in Louisville, Bobby Petrino brought the Cardinals to public power. He led them to 11 wins in 2004 and 12 wins in 2006—only the second and third times the Cardinals won more than 11 games in a season, and to this day still ranks prominently in the top 10 of the most recent serious media poll.
They spent little time in 2006 competing for the overall title, rising to third place in the country before losing the main score to Rutgers. The 2006 team was welcomed to the Orange Bowl, just the second appearance in school history.
On July 13, 2006, Bobby Petrino signed a 10-year, $25.6 million deal to remain as the starting football coach. The deal increased his salary from $1 million to $1.6 million per year, with $2.6 million in the final year of the contract. The deal included a $1 million buyout clause.
On January 7, 2007, less than half a year after signing the aforementioned 10-year contract, it was announced that Bobby Petrino had accepted the head coaching position for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have brought Bobby Petrino to Atlanta on a five-year, $24 million deal.
A major explanation for Bobby Petrino’s recruitment was to train star quarterback Michael Vick to become a more well-rounded quarterback, as Michael Vick was known more for his running ability than as a passer.
In any case, before Bobby Petrino’s first coaching session, it was discovered that Michael Vick had funded an illegal dog fighting operation near his old neighborhood in Portsmouth, Virginia. The conditions of Michael Vick’s bail prohibited him from leaving Virginia before the November 26 playoffs, ending any reasonable chance he would play in a major league game in 2007. As a result, Bobby Petrino began the season with backups Joey Harrington, Byron Leftwich, and Chris Redman as his quarterbacks.
With their quarterback ruled out for the season, the Falcons seemed, by all accounts, a team without a leader. On December 10, 2007, the Falcons were at the bottom of the NFC South.
Personal life
Bobby Petrino has four children, namely Nick Petrino, Bobby Petrino Jr., Katie Petrino and Kelsey Petrino, two daughters, and his partner, Becky Petrino.
His eldest daughter, Kelsey Petrino, transferred from the University of Louisville; his oldest son, Nick Petrino, also attended Louisville. His youngest son, Bobby Petrino Jr., attended the University of Arkansas, and his youngest daughter, Katie Petrino, played on Louisville’s golf team.
He also has five grandchildren. Bobby Petrino’s younger brother, Paul Petrino, is the head football coach at the University of Idaho.

With an annual salary of $850,000, Bobby Petrino has amassed an estimated net worth of $5 million.
