Early life
Kashmala Tariq was born in Lahore, Pakistan, on January 24, 1972. She obtained her LLB from the University of Punjab in 1996 after graduating from Kinnaird College in Lahore. She obtained her LLM from the London School of Economics in 1999, a year in which she also served as principal. Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf active in the UK. She also claims that she was President of the LSE Students’ Union from 1992 to 1998. However, there is some scepticism surrounding this claim, as the LSE Students’ Union does not have a temporary President position.
Career
In the 2002 Pakistani general elections, Tariq was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League on a seat reserved for women from Punjab. She is one of the most outspoken female legislators in the National Assembly. She was elected Speaker Commonwealth Parliamentary Women’s Committee in 2007. In the 2008 Pakistani general elections, she was re-elected to the National Assembly as PML-Q candidate for the Punjabi seat reserved for women. For a four-year term, Tariq was elected in February 2018 to serve as Federal ombudsman for protection against harassment of women in the workplaceHer staff held the journalists back. Waqt News against their will and beat them in March 2018. She told her staff to confiscate the journalists’ equipment and destroy recorded conversations after accusing them of recording an informal conversation.
Personal life
Tariq works as a full-time lawyer. In 2020, she married Waqas Khan.
