Early life and education
Bola Tinubu was born on 29 March 1952 in Osun State to the prominent Tinubu family, his mother, Abibatu Mogaji, a trader, later to become the Ìyál’ọ́jà of Lagos. Tinubu’s tribe is Yoruba, one of the three main ethnic groups in Nigeria. He is Muslim.
His parents were Chief Abibatu Mogaji (mother) and Chief Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu (father). He had siblings, but their names and details are not widely known.
He attended St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos and Children’s Home School in Ibadan, Southwestern Nigeria.
Bola Tinubu was then sent to Richard J. Daley College in Chicago, Illinois, and then to Chicago State University for further education.
He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Career
Before returning to Nigeria, Bola Tinubu worked with leading firms such as Deloitte, Arthur Anderson and GTE Services Corporation in the United States. After returning to Nigeria in 1983, he secured a job with Mobil Oil, Nigeria where he later rose to the position of Managing Director in the company.
However, he began his political career in 1992, serving as a senator representing the Lagos West constituency during the short-lived Third Republic of Nigeria. After the June 12 elections were annulled, Bola Tinubu, along with several other well-meaning Nigerians, formed the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), a group committed to restoring democracy and recognizing the June 12 results.
In 1994, Bola Tinubu fled Nigeria under arrest and torture and later returned in 1998 after the death of Sani Abacha.
In 1999, Bola Tinubu contested and won the Lagos state gubernatorial election under the auspices of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
In April 2003, he was re-elected for a second term and served until 2007. Bola Tinubu is currently the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Personal life
Bola Tinubu is married to Oluremi Tinubu, currently a senator for the Lagos Central Senatorial District. The marriage has four children, but one died late.
He is identified as a Muslim. His mother, Abibatu Mogaji, is said to have died on 15 June 2014 at the age of 96.
His children are Seyi Tinubu, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Jide Tinubu and Abibat Tinubu.
