Early life and education
Bruce Willis was born on March 19, 1955 to Marlene Willis and David Willis in Idar-Oberstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, West Germany.
His mother, Marlene Willis, was German and his father, David Willis, was an American soldier. He had two younger brothers, David Willis and Robert Willis, and a younger sister, Florence Willis;
Bruce Willis’ mother worked in a bank, and his father settled in New Jersey after retiring from the army in 1957 and began working as a welder and machinist.
He attended Penns Grove High School. He suffered from a stutter, but performing on stage helped him overcome this problem. Bruce Willis was a well-liked student and was elected student body president.

After graduating from high school, Bruce Willis began working a number of menial jobs, including as a private investigator and a security guard at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant. He enrolled at Montclair State University to study drama. However, he dropped out during his junior year and moved to New York City to pursue an acting career.
In addition to his high school and college studies, Bruce Willis also studied drama for three years at the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York.
He struggled to find work, but was accepted to appear in the Off-Broadway play Heaven and Earth in 1977. He then appeared on the stage again, including a leading role in The Cowshed.
