Biography
Colonel Tom Butime (born 11 January 1947) is the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities in the Ugandan Cabinet.
He is a prominent politician and the elected representative for Mwenge District, Kyenjojo Central District in the 10th Parliament of Uganda (2016–2021).
He is a trained cinematographer and a shrewd politician.

Early life
Tom Butime was born in 1947 in Kyenjojo district of Uganda.
He was born in an era when education was a luxury for everyone.
He could not complete his primary and secondary education on time but finished it when he joined the army. His father was a farmer, and he often helped his father with farming when he was very young.
With the support of his parents and determination, he was able to enlist and retire with the rank of Colonel.
Tom Butime is a hard-working and fearless man; he is highly respected in Ugandan politics, and he remains one of the most active and long-standing politicians in the country. He is not afraid to express his views on any issue in the country.
Education
Tom Butime completed his post-primary education in Uganda and enlisted in military school.
Career
Tom Butime is a trained cinematographer, and he began his career in the film industry before joining the military, where he retired as a Colonel. After retiring from the military, he entered politics in 1980, and has been able to hold various positions since then.
Butime served as Minister of Home Affairs from 6 July 1996 to July 2001, and Tom Butime also served as Minister of Refugees and Disaster Preparedness during that time. From 2001 until the cabinet reshuffle in January 2005, Butime served as Minister of International Cooperation and as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs from March 2004 to January 2005.
Tom Butime served as Minister of Communications from 13 January 2005 to February 2006. After the February 2006 general elections, he was appointed Minister of Karamoja Affairs, but he declined to take up the post. In 2011, he ran for the Mwenge Northern District Representative but lost to David Muhumuza.
Tom Butime is currently the elected representative for Mwenge Central District, Kyenjojo County, in the 10th Parliament of Uganda (2016–2021) and is the Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities in the Ugandan Cabinet.
