Early life and education
Musa Hassan was born on September 13, 1951 in Malaysia. He was raised by his parents. Hassan Azhariand is his father’s name, while details about his mother are not publicly disclosed. Hassan grew up with his two older brothers, Fuad Hassan and Jalaluddin Hassan.

Career
Musa Hassan took over as Inspector-General of Police from Mohd Bakri Omar in September 2006, having previously served as Deputy Inspector-General under him. Shortly after his appointment, Hassan was investigated for corruption related to the release of three members of illegal betting syndicates.
However, due to lack of evidence, the Attorney General ordered the Anti-Corruption Agency to close the investigation in July 2007. Hassan’s term was extended for another two years in September 2007 despite having reached mandatory retirement age.
In March 2010, the Home Minister announced that the government would find a replacement for Hassan as Inspector-General of Police. On 13 September 2010, Hassan resigned after more than three years of service, and his deputy Tan Sri Ismail Omar was promoted to the new post.
After retiring, Hassan remained active, accepting speaking engagements to discuss topics related to crime trends and integrity in the police force. From late 2021 to mid-2022, he was involved with an organization that fights human trafficking and organized crime.
