formation
BWitched was founded in 1997 when twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch, who had loved music and dance since childhood, decided to create a girl group.
They were soon joined by talented musician Lindsay Armaou and Sinéad O’Carroll, who had acting experience.
The band initially performed under “Butterfly Farm” before settling on the catchier “BWitched.” Their career breakthrough came in 1998 when they signed with Sony’s Epic Records.
Profession
B*Witched’s debut single “C’est La Vie” was released in 1998 and became an international hit, reaching number one in the UK and reaching the top ten in many countries.
Their debut album of the same name*Bwitchcraft (1998) followed, also a huge commercial success, and included other hits such as “Rollercoaster” and “Belong to You.”
B*Witched became the first girl group to debut their first four singles at number one on the UK Singles Chart.
The band blends upbeat pop music with traditional Irish instruments such as fiddles, and their playful, carefree image has made them popular with younger audiences.
Their second album, Awake and Breathe (1999), showed a more mature side but, despite its initial success, did not match the impact of their debut.
By 2002, the pop landscape was changing and B*Witched faced the challenge of a record label change. They disbanded in the early 2000s, but their music remains a nostalgic theme for fans of ’90s pop.
In 2012, the band reunited for ITV’s The Big Reunion, which chronicled the reformation of pop bands in the 1990s.
The successful reunion led to the release of new music, including 2014’s Champagne or Guinness EP, as well as live performances in the UK and beyond.
