Anton Alvarez Alfaro was born on July 16, 1990 in Madrid, Spain. He is the son of former journalist Anton Alvarez Muñoz and former preschool teacher Patricia Alfaro Aguila-Real. He has a sister named Carmen Alvarez Alfaro.

In 2021, Tangana released his second studio album, El Madrileño, marking his transition into flamenco and Latin music. The album broke records on streaming services and made Tangana the first Spanish artist to debut at No. 1 on new album charts worldwide. The entire tracklist also reached the top 25 of the Spanish Hot 100.
Additionally, in July 2023, he composed a national anthem for the 100th anniversary of the founding of Galician football club Celta Vigo, which he called the most culturally significant work of his career.
