Finnish authorities have frozen the assets of Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Biafran agitator, and detained him at Kylmäkoski Prison, one of the world’s most secure penal camps.
Ekpa has been detained for several weeks on terrorism-related charges. In addition to him, the Finnish government also confiscated the assets of companies tied to him and four other individuals suspected of being his accomplices. These alleged accomplices are also currently in custody.
Reports from the Finnish national broadcaster, Yle, indicate that Ekpa is being held at Kylmäkoski Prison, a high-security facility in Akaa known for its strict measures and for holding imprisoned individuals. convicted or awaiting trial for serious crimes, including acts of violence.
Ekpa’s arrest, along with the arrest of four others, happened about four weeks ago. The charges include inciting violence and financing terrorism. Finnish police confirmed that the Päijät-Häme District Court detained Ekpa on charges of inciting the public to commit crimes with terrorist purposes.
This decisive action by the Finnish authorities highlights their resolute stance against activities that incite violence or support terrorism, whether domestically or internationally. Ekpa’s case has attracted significant attention, especially in Nigeria, where he remains a divisive figure due to his association with calls for Biafran secession.
