Chappell Roan posts video criticizing extremist fans: ‘I’m allowed to say no to creepy behaviour’

In a new series of TikTok videos posted on Monday, singer Chappell Roan criticized antisocial behavior from fans and defended his right to refuse photos, hugs, and “weird” behavior from people.

The “Midwestern Princess” begins her first video by asking viewers to answer her hypothetical questions.

“If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from your car window? Would you harass her in public?” Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Amstutz, hypothetically asked fans. “Would you be offended if she refused your time because she had her own time? Would you stalk her family? Would you stalk her? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online? This is a woman you don’t know. And she doesn’t know you at all.”

“Do you think she’s a good person? Do you think she’s a bad person? Do you think everything you read about her online is true?” she continued in the post. “I’m a random bitch. You’re a random bitch. Think about that for a second, okay.”

The videos end there. Although the videos begin with a question for viewers, the comments on both videos are disabled.

“I don’t care that stalking and harassment is normal for celebrities,” Chappell Roan says at the beginning of her second video in the series. “That doesn’t make it okay. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I like it.”

She continued to defend her right to refuse fans and others calling her names in public.

“I don’t care if you think I’m being selfish by saying no to taking pictures, or asking for your time, or asking for a hug. That’s not normal. It’s weird when people think you know someone just because you see them online. That’s weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, okay?”

Chappell Roan has skyrocketed in popularity this year, attracting increasing international attention over the summer. At a show in June, she was candid with her audience about how her fame has been overwhelming at times and the difficulty of keeping up with and meeting the demands of her fans.

She also shared in an interview that came out before her TikTok comment that touring takes up all of her time and it’s important to stay authentic and not compromise your morals while on the road.
