Chidimma Adetshina has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. The finale took place at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, where Adetshina, representing Taraba State, defeated 24 other contestants. This is a remarkable achievement in the Nigerian beauty pageant.
Adetshina’s path to victory was complicated. Originally scheduled to compete in the Miss South Africa pageant, she withdrew after controversy over her nationality arose. Born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, Adetshina faced criticism and was disqualified from the Miss South Africa pageant, an incident that attracted significant media attention.
Despite this, the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant welcomed her, allowing her to represent Taraba State. Her participation garnered significant public interest and support, helping her gain the highest number of votes.
The pageant showcased Nigerian culture and talent, with Adetshina’s story of resilience resonating with voters. She has vowed to use her platform to advocate for inclusion and diversity.
In addition to Adetshina’s victory, Miss Anambra, Paula Ezendu, won the 1st runner-up title and was crowned Miss Supranational Nigeria, thereby winning the opportunity to represent Nigeria in Poland.
