On May 5, 1989, Joyce Hawkins (mother) and Clinton Brown (father) welcomed a son they named Christopher Maurice Brown.

Chris Brown, for short, was born and raised in his hometown of Tappahannock, Virginia, United States. He has an older sister named Lytrell Bundy.
