Deon Derrico is best known as the star of Double Down with Derricos. He has an older brother named Christopher Shonnald Turner, commonly known as Chris Derrico. He recently decided to pay tribute to his late brother through an IG post.
Chris wrote in his IG post, “Doubling Down With #TheDERRICOs thank you all for your prayers and well wishes on the passing of my brother Christopher Shonnald Turner who is gone but never forgotten!! The first photo from left to right is me at 18, and on the right is my brother Chris at 23, taken in 1988, the other 3 photos in the slide were all taken in 2019, a year before he passed away! In case you didn’t know, Deon’s brother Chris Derrico passed away in 2020. Shortly after Chris passed away, Deon announced his passing through an IG post. He wrote, “My oldest brother Christopher (Chris) Turner, passed away suddenly today, but will never be forgotten 01.31.1966 – 01.27.2020.”

On his memorial page, Deon Derrico wrote: 01.31.1966 – 01.27.2020. He was only three days away from turning 54, so he was 53 when he passed away.
Chris and Deon’s mother, Marian, has also opened up about the loss of their son. In April 2020, Marian wrote, “I was lying in bed thinking about my firstborn son, Christopher Turner. I remember being so scared all his life of the possibility of him being harmed or hurt in some way. But never really thinking or believing that he could actually be taken from me… oh my gosh, how naive I was. I’ve been so numb since he left, the numbness is slowly fading away and the pain I feel is unreal. The loss that has engulfed my body is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I want to scream but the stubbornness in my throat won’t let me.”
Two years later, in 2022, Marian spoke about her son again, saying, “Today, 2 years ago, my firstborn child left this world to enter his heavenly home. I thank GOD for welcoming him into his heavenly kingdom and providing him with a home of his own. I thank GOD for giving us the peace to reach this point without him. Rest in peace my Son until we meet again. We miss you, Chris, and will love you forever. Your mother and brother.”

According to a video posted on TLC’s Twitter page, Deon Derrico received a voice message from someone named Amani who claimed to be the son of his late brother Christopher. In the video, Deon admits to missing a call to his wife, Karen Derrico, and expresses surprise at hearing Amani’s voice message and his claims.
Deon’s wife, Karen, tried to comfort him as he broke down at the prospect of having a family member he’d never met. In Episode 3, We Didn’t Start the Fire, viewers heard, “My name is Amani,” Amani said on the voicemail. “Your brother Chris could be my dad.”
“I don’t know what to think – it’s a lot to take in,” Deon told the cameras. “Christopher was my brother and I really looked up to him growing up.” “Chris’ passing came as a complete surprise to us,” he continued. Deon said he had “mixed emotions” about the possibility that his late brother may have had a son he never knew about.
Chris, who passed away suddenly on January 27, 2020, likely did not know Amani had a son and had never met him. Deon later verified that Amani was Derrico and Chris’s son, however, viewers will not find out the outcome until a later episode.
“Next to my beautiful mom GG and handsome nephew Amani is a picture of his dad, my brother Chris, on the wall behind us,” Deon captioned the photo taken in December 2022. However, the post has since been deleted.
Amani may be a member of GG and Deon’s family, but GG admits that they need a DNA test to prove it first. GG demanded that his potential grandchild undergo a DNA test to ensure that he was Chris’s child during a webcam chat with Amani during the season. Amani admits that she “corrupted” her late child, but GG insists that becoming a Derrico could change her life for the better.
After her lung cancer returned at the end of Season 3, viewers saw GG undergo chemotherapy treatments throughout the season. In Season 4, GG claimed that finding out she might have another grandchild she didn’t know about gave her life a new, worthwhile “purpose.”
Deon worries that GG will be “devastated” if Amani isn’t their biological relative over their newfound happiness. Luckily, the family learns the truth, which could have implications for future episodes of The Derricos.
