Christopher Lee was born on May 27, 1992 in Belgravia, London. His father is diplomat Geoffrey Trollope Lee and his mother is Estelle Marie Carandini di Salzano. He has an older sister named Xandra Lee and two nieces Harriet Walter and Charlotte Walter.

His great-grandfather was an Italian political refugee, and his maternal grandfather, Cesare Carandini, was an Italian diplomat and an amateur genealogist. At first, Christopher Lee was sent to elite private schools because his parents were related to the British aristocracy and his father worked in a British bank.

Later, he became interested in acting. He graduated from Wellington College and was praised for his performances in Shakespeare plays.

His mother moved to Hollywood to escape the German Nazis. She became an American citizen, while his father lived in London until the eve of World War II. Christopher Lee came to the United States with his mother after a psychic told him that it would be dangerous to stay where he was during the impending invasion.

Christopher Lee served in the Royal Air Force in 1939 and served as a Special Operations Executive during World War II. In 1944, he was sent to Finland with the Special Operations Executive, where he blew up a railway bridge. After the war, he worked for British intelligence, interrogating Nazi spies.

personal life

In the late 1950s, Christopher Lee met Henriette von Rosen at a nightclub in Stockholm and became engaged. Henriette’s father, Count Fritz von Rosen, asked and persuaded them to postpone their wedding for a year.

Henriette von Rosen’s father also asked his friends in London to interview Christopher Lee and hired private detectives to monitor him. He also asked Christopher Lee for letters of recommendation, which Christopher Lee obtained from Joe Jackson, John Boulting, and Douglas Fairbanks II. Later, Christopher Lee broke off the engagement before the wedding.

In 1960, a Danish colleague introduced Christopher Lee to Danish painter and former model Birgit Klenk. Soon after, they became engaged and married on March 17, 1961. Their daughter, Christina Erica Lee, was born in 1963.

Profession

In 1946, Christopher Lee returned to London and was offered a well-paid job by Beecham, but he turned it down because he couldn’t get himself back into office mode. He hated curfews and thought his Latin was rusty, but the military was sending veterans with classics degrees to teach at universities.

“Christopher Lee, why don’t you become an actor?” Christopher Lee asked Nicole Carandini, his cousin and then Italian ambassador to the UK, when they were discussing his war injuries.

Christopher Lee met Nicol Carandini’s friend Filippo Del Giudice, a lawyer-turned-filmmaker and head of Two Cities Films, a subsidiary of the Rank Organization, and the two negotiated an acting role.

He made his film debut in The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), playing the monster created by Victor Frankenstein alongside Peter Cushing.

This was the first film Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing worked on together, and they went on to work on more than twenty films together, becoming increasingly close. They asked me if I wanted the role, I said yes, and that was that.” he said after being asked this question at a film casting meeting.

Christopher Lee later co-starred with Boris Karloff in the film Bloody Corridors (1958). The British television series Colonel March of Scotland Yard invited him and Boris Karloff to appear in the episode “At Night, All Cats Are Gray” in 1955.

Christopher Lee left England for America in 1977, fearing he would be stereotyped in horror films like his friends Peter Cushing and Vincent Price.

At the same time, Lee starred in the Disney film Return to Witch Mountain (1978) with Bette Davis. He turned down the role of Dr. Barry Lumack in the 1980 disaster satire Flying Man. The role was later played by Leslie Nielsen. According to Lee, he regretted turning down the offer.
