The next governor of Zamfara will be a Nigerian politician and banker named Dauda Lawal Dare.
In the 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial election, he defeated incumbent Governor Bello Matawalle of the APC by running on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.
He is a prominent leader in the Nigerian banking industry and one of the leading figures in the country’s financial sector as the managing director of Public Business North of First Bank of Nigeria Plc.

Early life
Dauda Lawal was born on September 2, 1965 in the Zamfara region of Nigeria.
He was born into a humble family, well known in the textile industry of Zamfara State. There is little information available about his parents and siblings, and anything he reveals will be noted.
Dauda Lawal Dare completed his primary and secondary education while growing up in the same household as his parents. In 1987, he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
In 1992, he received his Master’s degree in Political Science/International Relations from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto and his Doctorate in Business Administration from the same university.
To further his education, he also attended prestigious universities, including the London School of Economics, Harvard Business School, Oxford University Business School and Lagos Business School.
Career
Dauda Lawal Dare is a political education officer at the Nigerian Mass Mobilization for Economic and Social Self-Empowerment Agency.
Upon joining Westex Nigeria Limited in 1989, he rose to the position of assistant general manager.
Dauda Lawal was hired as a consular assistant (immigration) in 1994 and was later promoted to chief of protocol at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC.
He joined First Bank of Nigeria Plc as a customer relationship manager in 2003 and has held various senior management positions in the Abuja regional office.
After holding various positions, he was promoted to executive vice president, public sector at First Bank of Nigeria Plc in 2011. In 2012, he was appointed executive director, public sector at First Bank of Nigeria Plc.
Dauda Lawal later entered politics, contesting against Idris Shehu Mukhtar in the APC primaries for Zamfara governorship in 2018.
He ran and won the Zamfara governorship under the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 Zamfara governorship election.
