early life and education
David Richard Solberg was born on August 28, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He is an American-British actor and singer. He was raised by his parents, June Solberg and Dr. Richard W. Solberg.
His mother, Joanne (Nelson), was a teacher, and his father was a Lutheran pastor, professor of history and political science, and director of higher education for the Lutheran Church in America (now part of the ELCA).
Solberg has a brother named Pastor Solberg. The family lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Solberg attended Augustana College for two years. The family later moved to Mexico City, where Solberg studied for a year at the University of the Americas.
After returning from Mexico, Solberg was hired to sing in a club at the University of Minnesota called the Ten O’Clock Scholars. Solberg’s ethnicity is white and he is a Christian.

David Soul began acting in the mid-1960s and was a founding member of the Firehouse Theater in Minneapolis. In 1965 he went to New York to appear in Bertolt Brecht’s “Baal” and John Arden’s “Serjeant Musgrave’s Dance” ).
This early stage production marked the beginning of Soul’s journey into showbiz. Soul first came to national attention in the United States when he appeared on “The Merv Griffin Show” in 1966 and 1967.
