Devil May Cry Peak of Combat Tier List, Best Characters in the Tier

Devil May Cry

Devil May Cry is a video game series that tells the story of a man named Dante who fights demons to protect the Earth. The game focuses on exciting combat where you control Dante and perform cool moves to defeat enemies without taking damage. Your combat ability, combat speed, and the items you collect all affect your performance in the game.

The developers of Devil May Cry originally wanted to make a different game called Resident Evil 4, but Capcom, the company behind it, felt that the game was too different from Resident Evil. So they made it their own game. The game is directed by Hideaki Itsuno and written by Bingo Morihashi.

There is a game called DmC: Devil May Cry, made by another team called Ninja Theory, but overseen by Capcom. They’ve also remastered the first three games to make them look better on newer consoles.

The latest game in the series is called Devil May Cry 5 and was launched in 2019. The game was extremely popular, selling numerous copies around the world and receiving awards from Capcom for its success. Because of their excellence, the series has inspired comic books, novels, animated shows, guides, toys, and action figures.

Devil May Cry plot

The Devil May Cry series revolves around Dante, a demon hunter with special abilities. It all started with his father Sparda, a powerful demon who saved the human world from a demonic invasion. With the help of human priestesses, Sparta sealed the door to the demon world and gave birth to twin sons Dante and Vergil.

In “Devil May Cry 3”, Dante fights his brother Vergil who wants to open the door to the demon world. They defeat a manipulative villain, and as the portal closes, Vergil enters the demonic world.

In the first Devil May Cry game, Dante battles demons on Mallet Island to prevent the return of the demon lord Mundus. He is helped by Trish, who looks like Dante’s mother. They defeat Mundus, and Dante begins a demon-hunting career called “Devils Don’t Cry.”

In the Devil May Cry anime, Dante protects a young girl named Patty who is being targeted by a demon. Together with Trish and Leidy, they stop the demon’s plan to gain immense power.

In “Devil May Cry 2”, Dante helps Lucia stop Arius who wants to summon a powerful demon. Lucia, created by Arius, joins forces with Dante to prevent this disaster.

“Devil May Cry 4” introduces Nero, who discovers a conspiracy of a corrupt religious organization. He clashed with Dante before realizing they were on the same side. They prevent the group’s leader, Saint, from using demonic powers.

A few years later in Devil May Cry 5, Nero, now in charge of Dante’s business, faces a powerful new enemy with the help of Dante and the new character V.

The timeline originally placed Devil May Cry 4 before Devil May Cry 2, but Devil May Cry 5 changed that. DmC: Devil May Cry, a game developed by a different team, is not part of the main series, but it explores a different universe with a different Dante and a more modern setting.

Devil May Cry History

Initially, after completing Resident Evil 2 in 1998, a team led by Hideki Kamiya began developing the PlayStation 2 game that would become Devil May Cry. The game is very different from the Resident Evil series, taking inspiration from Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy and Capcom’s Strider series.

Devil May Cry’s success did not carry over to its sequel, which received mixed reviews. This caused Capcom to reevaluate and create the next game more in line with the success of the first. “Devil May Cry 3” was later made into a prequel to the series, exploring the protagonist’s past.

Following the success of “Devil May Cry 3”, development work on “Devil May Cry 4” has also begun. The team faced discussions about bringing in a new protagonist, but ultimately settled on Nero, along with returning character Dante. However, due to better sales of other games, a reboot of the series was considered.

Ninja Theory, known for “The Legend of the Dragon”, has been selected to produce the reboot “DmC: Devil May Cry”. Although it caused some controversy among fans, it still achieved good sales. Meanwhile, Capcom has expressed interest in a fifth installment in the original series.

In 2018, “Devil May Cry 5” confirmed the return of Dante and Nero at E3. The development team behind Resident Evil 7 was actively involved in its development, aiming to attract new players while satisfying the needs of old fans. The game aims to offer challenging gameplay while introducing an “auto” mode for easier combos.

Hideki Kamiya has also expressed interest in remaking the first Devil May Cry as well as a Dante and Bayonetta crossover game, adding to the potential future of the series.

Throughout the series’ history, various creative decisions, shifts in the development team, and attempts to balance fan expectations with new ideas have shaped the direction of the Devil May Cry games.
