Early life and education

Dickson Poon was born on 19 June 1956 in British Hong Kong. He was raised by his parents, known only to the media as Mr. and Mrs. Dickson, although their full names are unknown. It is unclear whether Dickson grew up with any siblings, as their identities have not been made public.

In November 2010, Poon donated £10 million to St Hugh’s College, Oxford, to build the Dickson Poon China Centre, which will bring together scholars from a wide range of China-related fields of study, provide accommodation for the college’s postgraduate students, and house the Bodleian Library’s Chinese Collection.

Two years later, in 2012, Poon donated £20 million to King’s College London to fund the current law faculty, the largest single donation to the college in its history. In recognition of his donation, the law school at King’s College London was renamed the Dickson Poon School of Law.
