Former Bad Boy Records artist Shyne weighs in on his complicated past relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs.
In an interview for his upcoming documentary, Honorable ShyneThe rapper-turned-politician opened up about the 1999 nightclub shooting that sent him to prison and how it affected his life.
Shyne explained to Tamron Hall that he never mentioned Diddy as the one who fired the shot because he didn’t see it happen.
Shyne said, as quoted by AllHipHop, “I didn’t see him shoot and I’m not going to lie.”
He continued, “I don’t believe in getting my friends into trouble, but I won’t make up anything to sensationalize my story.”
Shyne further shared his feelings towards Diddy, saying that the shadow of the disgraced rapper’s influence is greater than his problems.
“Diddy the entertainer’s power was so great that no one heard me, my mother and my supporters when we cried about our lives being ruined,” he said.
Similarly, Shyne addressed similar recent claims against Diddy, such as abuse. He asserted that he did not see any fallout in the case against Diddy.
“I was detained for 10 years and then deported for another 13 years,” he explained. “So I have nothing to do with Sean Combs’ life, other than what he did to me.”
In an interview with Stephen A. Smith, Shyne denied accusations that Diddy offered him $10 million to take responsibility for the shooting.
“People said Diddy gave me millions to go to jail but he didn’t give me anything.”
In his description of their deteriorating relationship, he listed only two “offensive contributions” by Diddy over the past 20 years.
Looking back on his life, Shyne said: “At times, I thought he was the devil.”
He criticized Diddy’s public persona, saying, “He’s such a PR master that he’s so loud that people never hear the victim.”
