Diplo has settled the sexual battery case against him stemming from a relationship he had years ago.
‘Rolling Stone’ reports that Diplo’s lawyer, Brian Elliot Turnauer, shared that the case has been “resolved”.
“In principle, we have a resolution. There are probably days, not weeks, left for it to be signed. There is one or two paragraphs to tweak. We have sent [revisions] on the weekend,” he said.
The legal agreement ends a dispute the producer had with Shelly Auguste, a woman with whom Diplo had sex in 2019. Her attorney, Kimberly Casper, agreed to the settlement request and trial date. trial – previously scheduled for January 13 – as the case has been vacated. However, both sides still scheduled to return on the 13th with the signed agreement.
The 46-year-old man was charged with sexual assault, gender violence, intentional invasion of privacy, assault, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, fraud and revenge porn in case, the newspaper reported.
He denied the allegations against him and sued Auguste in 2021 for alleged surveillance, trespass and distribution of private documents.
This isn’t the only case Diplo, real name Thomas Wesley Pentz, faces, as he’s been accused of a separate revenge porn case. The complaint stems from an incident in which the accuser, known as Jane Doe, claimed he shared footage of their sexual encounters together without her consent.
The woman in the case has since been ordered to reveal her name in order for the case to continue.
“Plaintiff has not presented sufficient factual evidence of the severity and reasonableness of the harm threatened and her vulnerability to justify the need for anonymity,” Judge said judge Monica Ramírez Almadani, according to ‘Rolling Stone’.
“The court appreciates that the plaintiff’s allegations in her complaint are ‘sensitive and [of a] very personal nature’ [and] that she could face public scrutiny if she conducted under her own name because Pentz is a public figure. However, because there is no need for anonymity, the public is interested in open proceedings,” the statement continued.
That case is currently underway.
