Andre Romelle Young (born February 18, 1965) is a global music icon and entrepreneur known by his stage name Dr. Dre.

He is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, music executive, and business mogul. He began his music career as a member of N.W.A., a gangsta rap group.

Dr. Dre is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beat Electronics. He is the former president of Death Row Records, which he co-founded. He has helped launch the careers of artists such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent.

Early life

Dr. Dre was born on February 18, 1965 in Compton, California. He was born to Theodore Young (father) and Verna Young (mother). His parents named him Andre Romelle Young. He was born a year after his parents got married.

When Dr. Dre was three years old, his parents separated and finalized their divorce in 1972. He began living alone with his mother in 1968. He is the older brother of American rapper Warren G, who includes Jerome Crayon, Tyree Crayon, Shameka Crayon.

Growing up, he lived in many different neighborhoods in California because his family moved frequently. He lived in Carson, Compton, Long Beach, Watts, and South Central.

Dr. Dre was raised primarily by his grandmother, who lived in the New Wilmington Arms housing complex in Compton.

Education

Dr. Dre attended Vanguard Junior High School, Compton and entered the school in 1976. But he left the school due to gang violence and continued his studies at Roosevelt Junior High School.

Dr. Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic, was released in 1992. The project was released under Death Row Records, a label he co-owned with Suge Knight. The album helped him gain popularity in the music world and he was one of the best-selling artists of 1993.

Let Me Ride and Nuthin but a G Thang were some of the album’s hits. The Chronic earned Dr. Dre a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.

Dr. Dre helped Snoop Dogg become a star in the music industry by contributing to the creation of his debut studio album, Doggystyle. He is credited as a producer on the album, which sold thousands of copies in the United States.
