She is best known for her Yoruba indigenous films and has starred in many of them.

Early life and education

Mercy Aigbe was born on January 1, 1978 in Edo State to Pa Aigbe and Abisola Grace Owodunni. She is 46 years old and hails from Benin City, the capital of Edo State. She has an older sister named Joy Aigbe.

She is the second child in a family of five. She attended St. Francis Primary School and Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos.

Mercy Aigbe is also an alumnus of Polytechnc Ibadan, Oyo State where she obtained her OND in Financial Studies. In 2001, she graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in Theatre Arts.

Career

Mercy Aigbe began her acting career with roles in several television series, including the popular television series “Papa Ajasco“.

Professionally, she officially entered the Nollywood industry in 2006 and acted in the movie that catapulted her to fame ‘Ara’, a movie produced by Remi Olupo in Ibadan, Oyo State.

She founded the “Mercy Aigbe Gentry Drama School” in 2016.

Her first marriage ended because of her mother-in-law’s interference.

In 2014, Mercy Aigbe married a Nigerian hotelier, Lanre Gentry, and had two children: Juwon Gentry and Michelle Gentry Aigbe, including three stepdaughters.

In 2017, she shared photos of herself after being allegedly assaulted by her husband. She later separated from her husband over allegations of domestic violence and began a campaign against it.

After her marriage to her first husband broke down, she had her second husband, a famous figure in the film industry named Kazim Adeoti.

Before venturing into filmmaking, Kazim Adeoti initially planned to study Business at Kwara Polytechnic Institute with a view to gaining admission into the University of Jos to major in Business Administration at the same time.

He agreed to the last option, and after completing his exams, he went on to the United States in 2001, where he became a home loan agent for ten years. A year later, he married his significant other and mother of four, Oluwafunsho Asiwaju.

Some time before entering the Yoruba film industry, Kazim Adeoti was interested in filmmaking and entertainment. So he focused on the action plans of famous Yoruba film promoters, Wasiu Afolayan, Chairman of Wasai Film and Kazeem Afolayan of Epsalum Production.

These two men were his close companions and through them he was introduced to important players in the Yoruba film industry.

By 2005, he joined his own company, Adekaz Production Limited, and shot his most memorable film ‘Ona Laafin’ produced by Jaiye Kuti, after a year.

“However, when I quickly came back, I realized the business was much better than the baseline and therefore, I improved.”
