early life
Drake was born Aubrey Drake Graham on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to an African-American father and a Canadian mother.
His father’s name is Dennis Graham and his mother’s name is Sandy Graham. From his mother’s side, he is of Jewish descent.
When he was born, his father was a drummer and a Catholic. His mother was an English teacher and a florist. When Drake was five years old, his parents divorced. His father moved back to his hometown of Memphis, while Drake and his mother stayed in Toronto.
Drake grew up in two Toronto neighborhoods, Weston Road and Forest Hills. The latter is a more affluent neighborhood. As a teenager, he became a victim of bullying by classmates because of his ethnic background.
He holds American citizenship through his father, and in the first few years after his parents’ divorce, his father often took him back to Memphis to spend the summers at his home. But this stopped after Dennis was incarcerated for a few years on drug charges, which affected his availability in Drake’s life. As a teenager, he attended Jewish day school and later became a member of a Jewish Bar Mitzvah.

Drake attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, where he showed an interest in the arts department and joined the school’s drama club to begin studying acting.

In 2001, Drake entered the film industry with a role in the teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation, which was executive produced by CTV. He played the role of Jimmy Brooks from 2001 to 2008 before deciding to pursue a career in music.
Drake’s success as a music artist began with the release of his debut studio album in 2010. The work, titled “Thank Me Later”, was a commercial success and topped the US Billboard 200. His biggest success came with his second album, “Take Care”, which was released in 2011. His third album, “Nothing Was The Same”, released in 2013, also achieved similar or even greater success.
His commercial mixtape, If You Are Reading This It’s Too Late, released in 2015, was certified multi-platinum in the United States. By 2016, Drake had become one of the world’s top pop singers. His fourth studio album, Views, spent 13 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200. He became the first male solo artist to achieve this milestone in more than a decade. The success of Views was fueled by its lead single, “One Dance,” featuring Wizkid and Kyla, which set multiple records and topped multiple international music charts.
In 2017, Drake delighted millions of fans by releasing his second commercial mixtape, More Life. The following year, he released the double album Scorpion, which included hit singles such as God’s Plan, In My Feelings, and Nice For What.
After nearly nine years with Young Money, he left the label in 2018 and released his third commercial mixtape on his own label, OVO Records. The mixtape, titled Dark Lane Demo Tapes, was released in 2020 and featured the successful single Toosie Slide.
In 2021, Drake launched two music projects. The first was Extended Play, Scary Hours 2. The second was his sixth studio album, titled Certified Lover Boy. This album created a milestone for Drake with the most US top 10 singles from an album. With the lead single Way 2 Sexy, this album also helped him to win his tenth number one.

He has sold more than 170 million records and has been named a certified digital single artist in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America.
