Drake cut ties with LeBron James instead of Kendrick Lamar? Rapper unfollows NBA star after ‘Pop Out’ appearance

Drake has unfollowed longtime friend LeBron James on Instagram, and social media users think this could be related to the rapper’s close relationship with Kendrick Lamar.

Drake continued to unfollow on Instagram on Tuesday, with James among those he cut off.

According to HotNewHipHop, he also regained followers on the Instagram accounts of Kendrick Lamar, Playboi Carti, Metro Boomin, DeMar DeRozan and Joe Budden.

Music Times confirmed that these stars were no longer on the list of Instagram accounts followed by the “God’s Plan” hitmaker as of Tuesday afternoon.

Drake, who has 144 million followers on Instagram, didn’t explain why he unfollowed these big names, but fans were quick to share their two cents on the move.

For months, it was speculated that Drake and James had a falling out after the Los Angeles Lakers superstar attended Lamar’s “Pop Out” concert in June. DeRozan also appeared at the show, where he danced on stage to Drake’s song “Not Like Us”.

James also later said that he is a big fan of “Not Like Us”, in which Lamar calls Drake a “certified pedophile”.

Now, fans have taken Drake’s unfollowing of James as evidence that the rapper could officially cut ties with the four-time NBA champion.

“It’s because of Kendrick Lamar,” one user commented on X, formerly Twitter.

A second joked: “More ‘Not like us.'”

“Drake after meeting LeBron at the Kendrick Lamar concert,” another wrote before adding a meme about Michael Jordan saying, “…and I took it personally.”

Some people were heartbroken to learn that the couple were no longer friends.

One user X shared several photos of Drake and James hanging out over the years and wrote that it was “the end of an era.”

Back in 2021, James narrated a video of Drake’s Billboard award for Artist of the Decade, praising his friend’s achievements in music.

The rapper returned the gesture last year when James broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record.
