Nigeria’s Information Minister, Mohammed Idris, announced the announcement following successful and mutually beneficial negotiations between the UAE and Nigerian Governments.

“Following successful and extensive negotiations, which were mutually beneficial between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, an agreement has been reached to allow resumption of travel to the UAE for Nigerian passport holders. The resumption of visas will take effect from 15 July 2024.“, Idris said.
The visa ban, which comes into effect in October 2022, has been a major point of contention between the two countries. The ban was initially imposed due to concerns about the authenticity of some Nigerian passports and the risk of fraud.
As part of the agreement, Nigeria has agreed to implement new measures to ensure the integrity of the passport issuance process. These include introducing Document verification number The (DVN) system will be required when applying for a visa.
