Enoch Godongwana (born 9 June 1957) is a respected South African politician and economist who has become known for the many political positions he has held.
On 5 August 2021, he was appointed as Minister of Finance by Cyril Ramaphosa.
In addition to this recent position, he has held several other notable positions over the years.

Early life
Enoch Godongwana was born in Cala, Eastern Cape, on 9 June 1957.

Education
Enoch Godongwana graduated and matriculated from St John’s College in Mthatha.
He attended the University of London in 1998, where he obtained a Master’s degree in financial economics.
Career
In 1979, in the early part of his life, Enoch Godongwana worked for the Mental and Allied Workers Union (MAWU) as a Shop Porter. For six years (1983 and 1989), he was the Local Organiser for the NUMSA Springs/Brakpan/Nigel Area.
After serving successfully for 6 years as Local Organiser, he became NUMSA National Organiser and NUMSA Regional Secretary in 1990. He also served on the Executive Committee and Central Committee of COSATU from 1992 to 1997.
In the elections held in 1994, Enoch Godongwana was declared Secretary General of NUMSA. He held this position until 1997 along with Chairman of the COSATU Economic Development Task Force.
He was a member of the NEDLAC Management and Executive Committee in 1997. He is also a co-founder of the Border Kei Development Forum.
From 1994, he served as a member of the Provincial Executive Council (MEC) in charge of Treasury, Economy, Environment and Tourism until 1998. He continued to hold this position from 1998 to 2004.
For one year (1997-1998), he was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Institute for Economic Policy, serving as Deputy Chairman of the ANC’s Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee.
Enoch Godongwana was appointed Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises by former President Jacob Zuma. However, Godongwana resigned in 2012 to pursue personal interests. He has held many other notable positions over the years until now as a member of the ANC party.
