Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is a Turkish politician born on 26 February 1954 in Kasımpaşa, Beyoğlu, Türkiye. He was raised by his parents, Ahmet Erdoğan (1905–1988) and Tensile Erdoğan (née Mutlu; 1924–2011), and grew up with four siblings Vesile İlgen, Mustafa Erdoğan, Hasan Erdoğan and Mehmet Erdoğan.

He is of Turkish descent and Muslim descent, a member of the İskenderpaşa Community, a Turkish Sufistic community of the Naqshbandi tariqah. Erdoğan studied in Istanbul but spent most of his summers in Güneysu, Rize, where his family was born.

He graduated from Kasımpaşa Piyale Elementary School in 1965 and Istanbul İmam Hatip High School, a religious vocational high school, in 1973. Other AK Party co-founders also followed this educational path.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was born in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, and attended Aksaray Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences before working as a consultant and senior manager in the private sector.
