Police have identified Luigi Mangione, 26, as the suspect in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last week.
When an employee at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania alerted authorities after identifying Mangione as a potential suspect, he was searched by local police and found to be carrying several fake identification documents. 26-year-old indie singer Ethel Cain publicly spoke out in defense of Mangione, sharing an image on her Instagram story that read: “These companies don’t care about you, your children or your grandchildren. They have no qualms about burning.” to the planet for a coin, so why should we worry about burning it to survive?”
The post continues: “We are animals like everything else on this planet, except that we have forgotten the laws of the jungle and bow to our lords when any other animal perceives a threat scare and fight to the death to survive. ‘Violence never solves anything’ is the saying of cowards and predators.”
Cain added his own two cents to the sentiment, writing “Violence breeds violence.”
Many of Cain’s fans supported her speaking out and found themselves agreeing with this sentiment. “Ethel is always on the right side of history,” one fan wrote, referring to Cain’s public condemnation of Donald Trump, as well as US military support in Israel. “This is why I stan her,” another fan wrote.
While he remains in custody, NYPD detectives are now en route to Pennsylvania to question Magione.
