Experts criticize JoJo Siwa’s on-stage drinking, unsafe workplace moves, and child star image

JoJo Siwa has transformed her bow-wearing child star image into a shy, unabashedly gay character as she ushers in her new era in music.

Psychotherapist Marni Feuerman spoke to The US Sun about Siwa’s recent changes.

According to Feuerman, Siwa is exhibiting new behavior that is causing people to no longer see her as a “child.”

“She’s trying to portray herself as a woman who’s making a statement and expressing herself differently,” Feuerman added. “JoJo doesn’t want people to see her through the lens of a child — or that child — anymore. She’s trying to say that she’s cool, that she’s remarkable, that she’s memorable.”

Recently, Siwa was seen performing on stage, drinking an entire bottle of vodka and even touching herself on stage in front of a young audience.

“The drinking on stage and all that stuff was just too much,” Feuerman described. “It’s about shock value and drama, but a lot of celebrities have been shocking like this. This is not new. The shock here comes from seeing this sudden change. The dramatic change in such a public and rapid way makes it more shocking.”

Feuerman also agreed with Siwa’s statement that she doesn’t want people to forget her and that she is entering a new phase of her life, moving away from the image she was built up since she was a child.

“She’s a real adult now and wants to make sure everyone is happy with that. Maybe she wasn’t happy before. Maybe she just looks at it and says, ‘That was me as a kid, and this is now.'” Feuerman concludes.

Siwa has recently established herself as a gay icon, accepting her sexuality and queerness more openly than ever before. According to Feuerman, the “Karma” singer may need to “be mindful” of what she does in front of her young audience.

“Some of her fans, followers, and people who love her are probably quite young,” Feuerman said. “They can be influenced, so JoJo should be mindful of that and try to be a role model. Some of the things she cares about and wants to promote, like LGTBQ, are great causes.”

Siwa recently revealed the tracklist and album art for her upcoming new EP, Guilty Pleasureincluding her most recent single, “Karma”.
