LAHORE: The duration of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree program in Punjab has been extended from four to five years.
In the 49th meeting of the Council of Dental Research of Lahore University of Medical Sciences, it was decided that the duration of BDS will be extended to 5 years, equivalent to the duration of B.Sc. Surgery (MBBS).
However, public and private dental colleges will not charge fees for the fifth year.
In the meeting of the Council of Dental Research, it was also approved to introduce a new syllabus for dental colleges from the session 2024-25.
On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor of University of Health Sciences (UHS) Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore said that special importance has been given to dental and public health skills in the new curriculum.
Life-saving skills have been added to the new curriculum. Prof Rathore said subject experts and medical education experts of all dental colleges will be trained under the new curriculum.
