LAHORE: National Motorway and Motorway Police (NHMP) spokesperson said on Monday that M-2, M-3, M-4 and M-5 motorways were closed due to dense foggy weather.
M-2 MotorwayOn the M-2 motorway, the section from Thokar Niaz Baig to Babu Sabo has been closed due to dense fog. The road is affected due to limited visibility, making it unsafe for commuters.
M-3 ExpresswaySimilarly, the route from Faizpur to Nankana on the M-3 expressway has also been closed due to dense fog in the area. The fog caused visibility to be extremely low, forcing authorities to take immediate precautions.
M-4 MotorwayOn the M-4 motorway, the section from Abdul Hakim to Multan has been closed to maintain foggy weather SOPs.
M-5 MotorwayWhile in M-5, the section from Sher Shah Multan to Zahir Pir has also been closed due to dense fog in the area. The highways will remain closed until further notice.
Meanwhile, NHMP has been closely monitoring the situation and providing regular updates. The highway closures were announced to ensure public safety and safe travel for commuters. However, lane violations in fog are dangerous and can cause accidents. The spokesperson noted that IG Raja Rifat Mukhtar has directed the highway police to conduct an operation against such violations.
Travel Advisory All travelers should use caution when driving and follow traffic advisories as best they can. They are also encouraged to consider alternative routes if available.
People should prioritize traveling during the day as much as possible. For essential travel, the best time is between 10am and 6pm, especially in Lahore.
Drivers should use front and rear fog lights. Unnecessary public travel should be avoided. Avoid speeding and keep an appropriate distance from the vehicle in front. Road users must ensure lane discipline when it is foggy.
