early life
Folake Olowofoyeku was born on October 26, 1983, in Lagos, Nigeria, to Nigerian politician Babatunji Olowofoyeku and Felicia Olowofoyeku.
Growing up, she was the youngest of Babatunji Olowofoyeku’s 20 children.
She grew up in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, but has spent most of her life in London.

Folake Olowofoyeku attended a Montessori boarding school (Igbinedun Educational Centre) in Benin City and later transferred to Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Ikeja, Lagos.
She also studied at Oxbridge Tutorial College.
In 2001, at the age of 18, she moved to the United States to attend the City University of New York with her sister, studying economics in the hopes of becoming a lawyer.
While attending City University of New York, she played NCAA Division III college basketball for the CCNT Beavers.

After graduating from college, Folake Olowofoyeku began working in Off-Broadway theater in New York City. In 2017, she starred in the final season of Transparent. She also played Minerva Jefferson in Death Race 2050 in 2017.
In September 2019, Folake Olowofoyeku starred in Chuck Lorre’s CBS sitcom Bob Hearts Abishola, where she co-starred with American comedian Billy Gardell. The sitcom was created by Chuck Lorre and British-Nigerian comedian Gina Yashere, who played the role of Kemi, Folake’s best friend.
Folake Olowofoyeku plays Abishola, a Nigerian nurse who meets a businessman named Bob in Detroit, and the show follows two people who discover they have more in common than differences.
Music career
Folake Olowofoyeku holds a diploma in audio engineering from the Audio Institute. She performs Afrobeat electronic music under the stage name THE FOLAKE. She also plays guitar, piano and has worked as a sound engineer.
In 2013, she played bass in two David Bowie videos, The Stars (Are Out Tonight) and The Next Day, both directed by Sigismondi Floria.
