Early life
Gbubemi ‘Chef Fregz’ Fregene was born on February 25, 1989 in the Yoruba city of Abeokuta in Ogun State. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fregene.
He is from Delta state, in South-South Nigeria.
Although born in Abeokuta, he grew up in Benin City, Edo State. He comes from a Christian family.
He started cooking at the age of 10 and prepared meals for the whole family. When he turned sixteen, he decided to become a Chef.
Education
He received his First School Leaving Certificate and West African School Certificate from leading private schools in Benin City.
After leaving high school, he enrolled in a private university, Covenant University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management from the school. He finished with a class above second place.
In 2010, he obtained a degree in Culinary Arts from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Paris.
Career
Gbubemi ‘Chef Fregz’ Fregene’s professional chef career began in 2004 when he began interning at Oakwood Park and Protea Hotel.
In 2007, he interned again at Oleander Lodge.
The young man decided to start his own barbeque/catering business in 2009. He called it DVARD catering.
After earning his diploma in Paris, he worked as an intern for three months at Market Restaurant, Paris. After completing the internship, he was offered a full-time job by management.
He decided to quit his good job in Paris and return to Nigeria to start his own cooking brand. His creative cooking skills soon brought him many customers in Nigeria, especially Lagos where he lived.
To further promote his brand, he started hosting regular summer-style cooking sessions called Chef Fregz Special.
He provides private chef services to many influential clients in Nigeria. Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the vice president is a notable example.
He has traveled throughout Nigeria on a culinary tour and several cities in the United States on a culinary tour. Currently, he has signed a contract with Temple Management Company.
He has been a judge for many cooking competitions nationwide. Most notable is Knorr Taste Quest.
