Chef Richard Blais comes from a family of four: his parents and his sister. Richard is the oldest of two children, born in February 1972. Richard Blais has had a significant impact on the hospitality industry over the past 15 years and is best known as the winner of Bravo’s Top Chef All-Stars. Like many aspiring young chefs, he began his career as a McDonald’s “Poissonnier.”

He first experimented with deconstruction in the kitchen here, serving a Filet-O-Fish sandwich without the top bun. Richard attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he developed an interest in both food and hospitality. A dedicated student, he spent his free time between semesters studying with legendary chef Thomas Keller at the French Laundry in Yountville, California, where he also met rising culinary stars Grant Achatz and Eric Ziebold.

Richard moved to New York in 1998 after earning his CIA degree to work at Chef Daniel Boulud’s acclaimed Restaurant Daniel. He then followed his career compass to Roses, Spain, where he completed a short stint at El Bulli under the guidance of renowned chef Ferran Adrià.

Richard moved to Atlanta in 2000 to manage a regional seafood concept. His highly creative approach to cooking and food led to the founding of Trail Blais, a cutting-edge culinary company that has advised, created and operated some of Atlanta’s most popular restaurants, including multiple locations of Flip Burger Boutique and HD-1.

Since then, he has appeared on numerous television shows. Richard has also appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Live! with Kelly and Michael, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, as well as in numerous publications, including The New York Times, InStyle, and Food & Wine magazine.

Chef Richard Blais is the son of Kenneth “Kenny” Blais. He was born in July 1953 to Louis J. and Martha E. (Crow) Blais. He has an older brother, James C. Blais, of Hempstead, New York. Sadly, his sister passed away on September 3, 2013 at the age of 56. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, majoring in English from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.

Kenny’s brother James works as a Project Manager at Telephonics.

As for Kenny, he was the technical director at ONE World Sports in 2013. He also worked as a freelance video director and editor. Furthermore, he also worked at MTV as a Network Associate Director. Additionally, he also served at Production by Design and at Encompass Digital Media as a key control executive.

Sadly, Kenny passed away in early December 2020. After his father passed away, Richard posted on his IG, “So my dad passed away a few days ago. You know, you dig through old pictures and think back. I know he would have loved this because it shows his Keith Hernandez phase in the early 80s. I know he would have loved this because he loved coaching my little league teams. So much so that it was the last text he sent me. I love it because I can’t remember ever holding my dad’s hand, but I really wish I could do it again. RIP DAD.”

Chef Richard Blais and his sister Lori Blais are his parents’ only two children. They are 9 years apart in age. On Richard’s birthday in February 2022, Lor wrote on her IG, “People are always surprised when I tell them my brother is 9 years older than me. Here’s my sweet big brother holding me like a baby for proof. Happy birthday, @richardblais! You sure have aged well.”

On Siblings Day 2020, Lori paid tribute to Richard in an IG post. She wrote, “Happy #SiblingsDay to my hero; my inspiration; the man who convinced me to give up the bottle 35 years ago. Encouraging healthy habits for decades! @richardblais.”

Lori is married to her husband James Barraud and has two children. The couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in April 2022. Meanwhile, they have been together for 21 years as of February 2023. Talking about their children, their daughter is named Avery. And their son is named Cameron.
