Early life and education

Gregory Buck Kinnear, 61, was born on June 17, 1963, in Logansport, Indiana, to Suzanne (née Buck), a homemaker, and Edward Kinnear, a career diplomat in the U.S. State Department. He has two older brothers, James (born in 1957) and Steven (born in 1959), of Scots-Irish descent.

Kinnear grew up as a diplomat’s son, and he moved frequently, living in Beirut and Athens. While attending the American Community School in Athens, he began his talk show career with the radio show Greg Kinnear’s School Maze.

After returning to the United States to attend college, he graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in broadcast journalism in 1985. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
