Gwen Stefani reveals how Blake Shelton flirted with her after she wanted to end their budding romance

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton may be the epitome of celebrity romance in the minds of most music fans. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t bumps in the road to marital bliss for the No Doubt lead singer and the veteran country star, who first crossed each other’s paths on the set of NBC. Voicethen revealed their romantic relationship to the public in 2015 before marrying each other in 2021.

In fact, back then, when love was just starting to blossom between the two, there was a time when Stefani tried to stop things.

However, in the end, Shelton won her over. How did he do it? Well, of course with the power of the song – the common thread between two musicians acquainted with very different musical backgrounds.

“We just met and it was chaos,” Stefani said. Everybody. “Our lives were in complete chaos, everywhere. Nothing could save us at that time. There were times when I thought, ‘I can’t even talk to you. This is crazy. I There are enough problems already. This won’t happen again. We won’t text or anything.'”

It goes without saying that the relationship was initially tumultuous, as they both went through bad divorces: Stefani and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale divorced in 2016 after 13 years of marriage, reportedly was due to factors including adultery allegations against Rossdale. A year ago, Shelton broke up with his wife Miranda Lambert after 4 years of marriage and was also caught up in cheating rumors.

So for Stefani and Shelton, it could have ended there, but love still found a way. As a way to keep in touch, so to speak, Shelton began writing the song that would become “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” the country duet he and Stefani released together in 2016. Soon, they went back and forth to write the song, which now means more than ever to the couple.

“I think he really wanted to impress me, because he doesn’t really write as many songs as he used to,” Stefani explained. “And I love writing songs. That’s everything to me. If I want to feel like I have any kind of purpose, any kind of value or anything, it’s about writing a song. That’s where I get satisfaction.”

She continued, “He sent it to me, and it was a half-written song. He said, ‘Help me finish this song.’ So I wrote him that verse again – the second verse in the song – and it was just in text form.”

Stefani added, “It was the first song we wrote together. We were never even in the same room, but we were writing a song for each other.”
