Career
Renard’s football career began as a player, where he played as a defender for several French clubs. He represented AS Cannes, Stade de Vallauris and SC Draguignan during his playing career from 1983 to 1998.
Renard’s dedication to the game was not limited to his playing days. After retiring as a professional player, he embarked on a coaching journey that would define his legacy.
Renard began his coaching career with SC Draguignan, where he gained valuable experience. He then worked as an assistant at Chinese side Shanghai Cosco under head coach Claude Le Roy from 2002 to 2003.
Renard’s coaching abilities were recognised when he was appointed manager of English club Cambridge United in 2004.
He then managed Vietnamese club Song Da Nam Dinh the same year before moving to AS Cherbourg in 2005. Renard also served as assistant to Claude Le Roy for the Ghana national team.
In May 2008, Renard took on his first major managerial role as coach of the Zambia national team. Under his guidance, Zambia reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, marking a significant achievement for the team.
