early life
Howard Stern was born on January 12, 1954 in Queens, New York City, USA to Ben Stern and Ray Stern.
He grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens, with his sister, Ellen Stern.

His father, Ben Stern, served in the U.S. Army before becoming a radio engineer. Howard Stern’s mother, Ray Stern, worked as an office clerk before becoming a respiratory therapist.
A year after his birth, his family moved to Roosevelt, New York, to complete his education. He first attended the “Washington-Ross Elementary School” and then the “Roosevelt High School”. He also attended the Hebrew School and was named Tzvi, a famous Jewish name.
As a child, he was fascinated by puppets and often performed puppet shows for his friends to entertain them. He also took piano lessons and formed a band called “Electric Comic Book” with his friends. He was the lead pianist and singer of the band.
Howard Stern also visited his father’s studio and was inspired by radio artists such as Bob Grant and Brad Crandall. From the age of five, he wanted to be a radio host and convinced his father to build a fictional studio in the basement of his home where he would entertain his friends.
