Grammy Award-winning singer Kali Uchis is publicly supporting best friend and frequent collaborator Omar Apollo in his latest cinematic endeavor.
On the red carpet of the Latin Grammy Awards, Uchis shared with Rolling Stone How proud she is of his work on Luca Guadagnino gay. While she has yet to see the film, she noted, “I heard he’s smitten with James Bond. That’s shocking.”
This coy statement refers to Apollo’s role in the upcoming A24 film, which features an intimate scene between him and the lead actor, Daniel Craig. Apollo plays a hustler who has a steamy one-night stand with Craig’s character William Lee, complete with a sex scene and full frontal nudity.
In an interview with MoreApollo noted that the scene was not awkward at all because Craig and Guadagnino made sure to keep Apollo comfortable.
“I’m definitely nervous, I’ve never done anything in that capacity before. But I have a lot of confidence in Luca and Daniel is obviously a great talent. If they’re good then I’m good too.”
When co-star Craig was asked Diversity about reactions to on-screen sex at the film’s Los Angeles premiere gay Wednesday night, he bluntly stated: “To me that’s pretty conservative.”
This is Apollo’s first role at the age of 27, whose debut album was highly appreciated by critics Ivory earning him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2023. Uchis won multiple awards with her 2024 album Orquideas nominated for Best Latin Pop Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
Queer is scheduled for release on November 27, 2024.
