In Netflix’s ‘Emily in Paris’, Philippine plays Sylvie Grateau, a luxury marketing company executive who loves to dress extravagantly, smokes, mocks political correctness, and is a mean person. Philippine told the NY Times that she loves to dress extravagantly in ‘Emily in Paris’.
But, there is a story about how the Philippines landed the role on the show. It all happened by accident. The show’s creator Darren Star asked Juliette Ménager, an international casting agent, to find an actress who could play the role. They were looking for someone between the ages of 35 and 45.
Juliette contacted Philippine and told her that although she was too old for the character, her energy made her look younger and wanted to audition her for the role. To prepare for the role, Philippine watched movies with Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and Barbra Streisand.
In an interview with ‘Vogue France’, Philippine revealed that she shares a bit of her personality with the character she plays on the show. She shared, “A little bit, yes. You never pick a character by accident. I might have her quirky side a few times. But other than that, I don’t share her other personality traits at all.
