Robert Jeffrey Stelling, commonly known as Jeff Stelling, is a British television presenter.

He was the host of the popular Gillette Soccer Saturday show for Sky Sports from 1994 to 2023.

Stelling was also the presenter of UEFA Champions League coverage for Sky Sports from 2011 to 2015.

Early life and education

Jeff Stelling was born on March 18, 1955 in Hartlepool, United Kingdom. He was raised by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stelling, although the media does not know if he has any siblings.

Stelling attended Rift House Primary School and West Hartlepool Grammar School as a child. He is white and Catholic.

Career

Jeff Stelling’s first radio job was as a Middlesbrough FC reporter on Radio Tees in the late 1970s. He then worked as a sports presenter on London’s LBC Radio Sportswatch in the early 1980s before moving to BBC Radio 2’s weekend sports programme Sport on 2, where he covered the Los Angeles and Seoul Olympic Games.

Stelling then worked as a sports news editor at TV-am, Channel 4, Eurosport and British Satellite Broadcasting before joining Sky in 1992 to cover horse racing, greyhound racing, snooker and darts. In 2003 he won an award for presenting a special sports programme on The Weakest Link.

In 2004, Stelling was invited but turned down an offer from the BBC to front their new Saturday results service, Score, which was handed over to Ray Stubbs instead. In May 2013, Stelling joined Twentyfour7 Football Magazine and wrote columns for the magazine’s Dream Team.

He also featured in EA Sports’ FIFA 14 and FIFA 15. Stelling became the host of Sports Saturday in 1994, which was renamed Gillette Soccer Saturday in 1998. The show featured up to six hours of football discussion and live commentary with a panel of expert commentators.

Much of the show’s popularity is attributed to Stelling’s “exceptional professionalism and demeanor”. In October 2021, Stelling announced that he would be leaving the show at the end of the season, but later in March 2022, it was announced that he would stay on at least until the end of the 2022–23 season.
